Rasmalai

“I just can’t tolerate it anymore?” shouted her husband.  “Papa, the thief might be from our neighbourhood” daughter said.  Mother in law grumbled, “I am here all the time watching around and no way that an outsider can enter into my house”.

“Let me see if anything else has been stolen from home or not” her husband started checking the cupboards, shelves and the hidden locker.  “Oh, everything is intact, here” he heaved a big sigh.

Meanwhile, her mother in law had finished checking entire kitchen and work area.  Even her daughter checked curiously here and there.  But, nobody could either find the stolen items or get any clue about the thief.

“Where is she?  How can she be so irresponsible?” her husband’s voice echoed in the house.  “Better, the thief would have taken her out of this house” screamed her mother in law.  “Grandma, please don’t insult my Mom, she is so sweet” suddenly her daughter retorted.

“What did you say?  Repeat once” Mother in law asked the little one.  “Hmm... What?” daughter thought for a while and said, “Don’t insult my Mom, she is so sweet”.

“Yes, there you are.  Come with me” Mother in law rushed to the bedroom.  Husband and daughter accompanied the old lady wonderingly.  “See, how sweetly she is sleeping” Mother in law screamed.  “And, she claims she has no time to relax at all” her husband shouted. 

“Papa, watch my Mom’s sweet smile even while sleeping” daughter wondered.  “She is not sleeping but acting” husband confirmed.  “Hey, Queen Elizabeth, get up before I pour water on you” shouted Mother in law.  “I think my sweet Mom is enjoying a sweet dream” looking at her Mom’s smile in sleep, daughter wonderingly approached her Mom, but ended up with a scream “Ants... Ants...”

Suddenly, she opened her eyes.  “What happened?” shockingly she asked everyone staring at her.  “Mom, ants were about to bite your face.  See here” daughter cautioned her Mom.  By then, ants on her pillow started running helter-skelter. 

“Oh, finally the thief is caught” screamed her mother in law.  “Damn it” her husband shouted.  But, the little one could not make out exactly what had happened.  The innocent girl was busy wiping off her Mom’s lips and chin with a handkerchief, “You sleep like a little baby.  See, water is flowing out of your mouth”.

“Oh my darling” she kissed her daughter.  “Mom, you are so sweet!” the little one kissed her sweet Mom and run away.  Her husband and mother in law were still cursing her in full volume.

She touched her lips and smilingly said, “I am so sweet today, sweet like a Rasmalai”.  She walked to bathroom and stood under the shower, still with a big smile on her face.  Nobody ever knew about her craze for Rasmalai.  Since childhood, she loved eating Rasmalai madly and later, she found the bakery of Rasmalai on someone special who stole her heart.  But, the destiny stole the thief from her life leaving behind Rasmalai memories forever.  “You are my Rasmalai” her lips shivered sweetly in the shower.

“I will never make any Rasmalai at home” mother in law was still high in volume.  “Better, we would have eaten in the bakery itself” her husband cursed his fate.  The innocent kid alone wondered, “Who might have stolen the Rasmalai from our kitchen?”  She still suspected her neighbour’s Pussy cat.

Our Queen Elizabeth was still busy in shower with her Rasmalai dreams.  After all, Rasmalai is a royal sweet!!!
