Champa and Chameli

“Where are you, my angels?” On not seeing little Champa and Chameli at home for a long time, Mom started searching for them.

“Oh, you are sitting here!” wondered Mom on seeing her daughters sitting under the Lucky Red Seed tree at the corner of their courtyard with a gloomy face.  “Why are you sad?” asked Mom curiously.  Champa turned her face around.  Chameli retorted – “None of you likes us.  Our best friend Chakori’s birthday is today.  Papa refused to buy a birthday gift for her”.  Suddenly, Champa screamed – “We can’t be jokers in the party.  We won’t go empty-hand”.

“Don’t be so sad, please.  If Papa has refused to buy gifts, then there must be some reasons” Mom replied calmly.  By then Papa came smilingly and pinched little Champa’s cheek.  Champa angrily shook her face – “I am angry”.  Chameli too expressed her anger.

“Hey, I want you to make a difference.  Do something different and prove your worth and talent.  Everyone will be bringing readymade gifts from shops.  Why don’t you use your creative mind for something special and amazing?” Papa asked.  Confused children curiously looked at their Papa’s face. 

“How about making a gift for Chakori with your own hands - a special gift that can bring a special smile on your friend’s face?” asked Papa.  Mom intervened smilingly – “Both of you love flowers, butterflies, dragonflies and birds.  You love plants and trees too.  Find something from your surroundings; use your creativity and make an amazing gift”

Champa and Chameli looked around surprisingly.  Birds chirped joyously.  Squirrels ran around them.  Suddenly, wind blew strongly whistling and shaking the trees.  Lucky Red Seeds fell on the ground from the tree.  “Wow. I got it.  These Lucky Red Seeds are really beautiful” clapped Champa happily.  “Certainly, we can make a special birthday gift” Chameli screamed.

“Wonderful!  You discovered your special birthday gift!” Papa said – “These Lucky Red Seeds are certainly one of the most beautiful seeds on earth which are naturally shiny.  These seeds are used for necklaces, bracelets, earrings and rosaries.  Children even play variety of games with these beautiful seeds”.  Champa’s face blossomed with a beautiful smile.  Chameli’s eyes shined while shouting in joy - “We will pick up the Lucky Red Seeds from the courtyard; wash and clean them properly and fill them in a beautiful empty ink bottle.  It will look very nice”.

“I will make some floral designs on a white handkerchief and decorate with Lucky Red Seeds.” Mom promised.  Thus, Champa and Chameli made a special birthday gift for Chakori.  Enthusiastically, they went to the birthday party in the evening.  Chakori was full of surprise and ecstasy.  Though she was happy with everyone’s gifts, her happiness found no bounds while looking at the very beautiful Lucky Red Seeds in the ink bottle along with the handkerchief made especially for her.  Children sat together and played different games with the Lucky Red Seeds. 

“You gave me the precious birthday gift ever” Chakori thanked Champa and Chameli.  Champa and Chameli hugged Chakori and smiled innocently.  Everyone clapped.  After all, it’s children’s amazing world of innocence and ecstasy!!!
